Carolina Herrera, American women's fashion designer and the darling of the ladies-who-lunch, reveals her new relaxed and refined Resort collection for 2009.

Herrara’s current Resort (or Cruise) collection is an indication of how deserving the designer is of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, according to Style.com

The CFDA Awards 2008

Along with a list of distinguished designers such as Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa, Marc Jacobs, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler nominated for this year's CFDA awards, Herrera received her Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of her contribution to American fashion. Describing one of the greatest highs in her career as “the first time I saw a woman walking down the street in one of my designs,” on Style.com, Herrera, joins a long list of deserving recipients from the Council of Fashion Designers of American (CFDA) awards, American fashion’s biggest honors.

Herrera — Darling of the Socialites

Carolina Herrera says that she makes “clothes that are classic but with a modern twist.” Socialites and celebrities clamor for her runway glamour. After all, this was the woman who dressed fashion icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for the final 12 years of her life, and designed the wedding gown for her daughter, Caroline Kennedy, in 1986.

Known as one of the fashion world’s most famous entrepreneurs; since launching her own fashion company in the early '80s, Venezuelan born mother of four, Herrera seems to know instinctively what women want. Having attended runway shows since she was 13, Herrera’s clothing label mirrors the designer’s own sophistication and class, and puts a modern spin on Old World charm.

Carolina Herrera Collections

Famous for her classic white shirts and elegant evening gowns, Herrera has long been favored by well-heeled American women and the ladies-who-lunch. Her current Spring Summer 2008 and Fall collections reflects her trademark designs and primary palettes of white, red and black, and the recently showcased resort collection for 2009 reflects current trends such as one-shoulder dressing, bows and ruffles. Both Herrera's spring summer designs, and her new resort collection, include easy-to-wear light dresses, embroidered evening and cocktail-ready gowns.

Carolina Herrera Resort Collection 2009

Style.com described Herrara’s 2009 Cruise Collection as “unimpeachably chic yet breezy.” With subtle embellishments, elegant one-shouldered evening gowns (including her trademark red) and full-legged liquid pants. Her orchid-print sheath dress and classic white cotton dresses, shirts and pants, have been given a part traditional and part modern twist.

A hint of nautical remains within this Cruise collection, with naval stripes and summer staple polka dots. There's an elegant one-shouldered navy polka dot evening gown and a floor sweeping daytime striped maxi. Herrera's latest collection is perfect for that port-to-port winter cruise, in true Resort tradition.

Always playing on women’s love for color and drama, and proving that monochrome does not mean monotonous, Herrara’s winning designs and powerful floral prints have firmly established her in the wardrobes of American’s most stylish women, as her recent CFDA lifetime achievement award shows.
